Painful Joys of Teaching

The classes will go on
Even as I sit forlorn _
Nature demands it so _
To learn,
To study,
To grow up and go away.

The students that sit
In my class _
Sometimes listening, sometimes not _
They all will eventually go away.
They know not the value
Of unconditional affection
And yet, give it happily so
Only to move on
And open their treasure chest
Of unexpected and unconditional emotions
For someone else.

Much as I long to be part of their little world,
Much as I yearn to be a student once again
I must let them go
As a lot is in store
For them, for me
For eternity.

Oh! The painful joys of teaching!

looking at the pic - if those are your students - i understand well - but you make their life so rich and will leave your good footprints in their lives as they find their way..

I used to teach and understand the feeling you speak. In the best situations, both students and teacher end the school year with lasting impressions. Cheers. Nice poem!

It must be like having your children leave the nest over and over again. Teaching is one of the most noble professions.

Nice One Shot, Shail!

Two of my aunts are teachers... and every summer whenever I visited them, they would have a huge crowd of kids at their places.. some saying thanks, some saying goodbyes...
I think I understand your pain here, Shail.. cuz I've seen it my aunts' eyes as well..

But you are doing such a wonderful thing by imparting knowledge to young and fresh minds... hats off to you, my friend! You must be so proud of that!!
Love and hugs...

A little like being a parent, then: you observe childhood, but can never again be a part of it. But the joys outweigh the sorrow!

Hi Brian. Yes, it is painful to let them go especially when they have enriched your life so. I found this more in school students than in college going children. Of course, it depends.

Thanks Brian for sharing...

So sweet of you to say that Claudia! I do hope that I have left happy and positive memories for my children in school.

Very true Dustus. Nice to know that you share the same feelings. I do hope my children have left with happy memories...

Hi Eric.
Yes, it is practically like that. The empty nest syndrome. I really felt empty at the end of each year!
Thanks.

Yes dear Kavita, teaching students indeed gives a lot of pleasure and joy. What you put in you get back twice the measure.

Thanks for dropping by..
