Love You Hamesha Bhaiya!

Whether as a child
or as a rebelling teenager,
your presence was all that I needed
to make me feel secure.
You were always the one to make me feel dear.

Busy as a bee
you could be
whenever your friends landed up.
Those times, I didn't even seem to exist.
Still, I lingered around
if only to be part of your group
of fun loving friends.

Then, you met her
and I rarely saw you.
You were too absorbed in new found love
While I wondered what made you like her
more than me.
Weren't we siblings?
She wasn't even there in our lives
when we bonded like friends.

But then, I was your baby sister,

too immature to gel-
I remember, one day
in a fit of anger
you even told me to go to hell!
I shed tears under the bed
imagining the loss of a brother
to some stranger
who meant more to you than me!

Today, I am older.
We live in separate homes
with different families
yet, whenever you call
I know I am going to have a ball!

Nothing like a brother buddy for life
inspite of he having a pretty wife.
For I can see that touching emotion
reach upto your eyes
as I tie the bond of love
on your hand,
something which no other girl
can ever do for you.
Now, that's a honourable position
for very few.

I love you brother
for all you mean to me,
for tolerating this irritating sis of yours
for eternity.
I couldn't say this yesterday.
I am saying it today.
Love You Hamesha Bhaiya!

I could feel the presence of Rakhi bond in my hand, Shail. It was so natural, so moving without any grand declaration of affection, and yet the love that could be shared only between a brother and a sis was conveyed to the reader's heart. I could relate to that poem as I have a little sis too. And only yesterday I was with her in Chennai. The way she made some special food for me, her act of coming down three floors in a lift to see me off.. well without sisters there won't be this much love in this world.
A really great poem, Shail.

Hello Sridhar,

I am really glad that you liked the poem very much. It makes me feel connected with all my related and unrelated brothers all over.

Thanks for expressing your love for your sister. It makes your sister's love for you worth it.

Thanks Shail for this timely
poem. This reminded me of several
interesting incidents involving my sisters. It will be nice if you can find time to write more poems.

Hi Shail! The poem is really very good and touching! I could empathize with the feelings of the sister being ignored over a wife, although I neither have a sister nor a wife! :-) Keep writing!

Very true Shail. You had expressed the love among siblings very well.
All I can do is read and know about it..but cannot feel the way you had expressed it,
as I don't have any immediate brothers of my own, but my own cousins.
As you had pointed out, to many brothers in the outside world..belated Rakhi wishes..

Hello Bhargavi. Nice that you liked the poem. Such kind of love need not necessarily be felt only amongst related siblings only. One can feel the same for cousins or even for people we are not related to but regard from the heart as brothers or sisters.

Brotherly love is a wonderful message the poem says to all highlighting India's special culture to mankind. It's the nice way to have fortitude for young girls in the society full of violence nowadays! The famous speech of Swami Vivekananda at Chicago, USA addressing all as "Brothers and Sisters!" have made the world look at the best culture of India then on and this poem one again reminds me of that today! Nice one!

wow very true .. the bond between a sis and brother is beautiful, but sadly in life we miss little events .

I have been lucky to have a big huge family where we are a lot of cousins and we all share so much love and respect for each other, I was the eldest so i had a lot of siblings to boss around ..
beautiful poem.
