Without You....

Without you, my child
I do not exist.
Without you,
I am nobody.
I have no identity.
With you,
I am love personified.

Without you, Mother
I have nowhere to go.
I have no haven.
I know no one.
With you
I am safe.
I know myself.
Without You, God
I am lost.
I am clueless about life.
With you,
I am.
I do.
I am life itself.

nice...take the relationships out of our life and what are we left with? not much i would say...

I was most struck by the 'mother' stanza. I remember feeling like that about my mother, but it's been so many years since I lived at home with her. I suspect that when that invisible cord is finally cut by the grim reaper, I'll realise how much was still remaining of that feeling.

I love this - especially about the mother. I miss my mother so much since she's been gone over 7 years now. I feel like I was just getting to know her well when she succumbed to Alzheimers. Lovely poem.

Hi Roger,

Yes, very true. All we need in the world is indeed love but people are not very generous with that emotion.

Thanks for dropping by.

Hi Nanka,

Nice you like the poem and that it made you think...

Hi Brian,

True, not much we are left with without our relationships but that's what we literally do when we become insensitive at times....

Hi Jay,

My mother- her absence is most felt now that she is no longer there in this world. Try to make the most out of her living presence otherwise you are left with too many 'ifs and buts.'
Thanks.

Hi Leslie,

Sad to hear about your mother. My mother passed away around 4 years back and the pain still hurts so I can understand and that too with Alzheimers!

Wishing you strength.

Thanks for sharing your feelings here Leslie.

I have written this one down by hand to remember it. I have written your name and site address too. I won't use it. I just like reading it.
You have struck something very important here. You have succeeded in describing the impossible to describe - love.
