Computed Virus

Here I was working on an assignment
Ready, up and moving
With all my creative juices flowing
When suddenly Internet Mahashai decided
Enough was enough
And ‘Poof’ went the connection.

I tried again and again
But somebody out there was sadistically adamant.
I complained, cribbed
And then called the internet man.
“Sorry ma’am,”
The wait was unwavering,
My patience unnerving.

So, off I trotted to a cyber café
Unmindful that it really may not be safe.
Enclosed in my miniscule cabin
I took my pen drive and plugged in.
Happy as a lark
I was satisfied I had made my mark.

Back home, mission accomplished
I relaxed in my chair
Unaware that virus was in the air.

Oh! The agony of watching your files fall ill
Till they fell apart
Like healthy saplings suddenly withering
And breaking your heart!

The doctor called, the malady treated

A healthy computer faces me now
But the files that suffered and let go
Still clog my brain
And my over active imagination screams
‘Was it a computed virus?’

It happens Shail. When our imagination is at peak, this happens..I used to console myself, maybe this imagination is not worth that thing and the new imagination would be the best. haha..
Now too, my husband says this laptop is infected and that's why it is slow and we had to click either hard or twice.
My daughter saw me one day snapping the keys...she screamed..."what are you doing..you will break the keys.."

Going today to get the Anti-Virus..to rectify it.

Thanks dear Bhargavi. I too try to put it that way, that maybe, the work was not worth it. But I can't help being harsh on myself. After all, I could have taken some precautions.

Truly a desperate affair this!!

Dear Shail,
Well having a computer virus these days is an even more prosaic experience than having a viral fever. And only you, Shail, can make it into poetry.
The word "computed virus" is a profound word having a dig at those anti-virus software companies who, are often accused of generating those germs.
Enjoyed your poem, Shail.
love,

The travails of technology! We've all faced it. Happy computing, viruses notwithstanding! :)

Dear Sridhar,

Glad you enjoyed the poem. The desperation and frustration undergone by a patient of the computer virus is common occurrence now:(

Thanks Sridhar!

Hi Indra,

I know, we got to manage with or without the virus. Sometimes I feel that these viruses are intentionally brought in (by companies, that is different - to increase sales) to make us go back to the lovely laid back longhand writing! What do you say?

Hi,

I have also suffered many times due to virus. only fool proof way is to avoid use of pen drives. Use rewritable CD/DVD to transfer files.
Avoid downloading any free software from unreliable sites.

I would like to thank that virus as it induced u to write this nice poem.

Thanks Hari for your lovely comments! But comments aside, these computer viruses are real trouble makers, destroying every effort of yours if you are not careful. Although I can count the number of times it has happened with me, I still worry and try to stick to the precautions you have mentioned.

The poem was a great way to deal with the virus—another way is to think about an Apple computer. For some reason they aren't apt to suffer the same way the PCs suffer.

Sorry about the virus

Your experience is one I dread. So far, I've been fortunate though I have had a couple of mechanical failings right in the middle of projects. Such is life. :-)
